Dr. Thomas Rowland

Dr. Thomas Rowland

Dr. Rowland serves as the director of the Institute, and its primary instructor. After getting tired of studying Tolkien manuscripts in Oxford and haunting the British Library, and after terrorizing the Irish and Austrian countrysides by motorcycle, and after having devoured all of the Spanish language while living in Chile, he has decided to retire to quieter matters in the cozy town of Lexington. His specialties include napping and eating: when forced to, he studies the history of reading, Robin Hood, and videogame literature. If you see him passing you on his motorcycle, please don't distract him, or he may offer you a complimentary lecture on a topic of your choice.

Dr. Anthony Cirilla

Dr. Cirilla is a brilliant man, and that's what he would tell you after you buy him lunch. He moonlights as the Boethian Acolyte, teaching on the intricacies of medieval philosophy and the deep complexities of radically relevant medieval texts to whomever asks him, and otherwise serves as Master of Zelda Studies. While he sleeps he memorizes CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, George MacDonald, the Apostle Paul, and Boethius while he mentally destroys on Zelda games. His source of secret power is his pipe, which he wields with deadly accuracy.

You will find him corrupting the youth of upper New York state, where he works as an instructor on the mysterious liberal arts.

Dr. Michael Elam

Dr. Michael Elam is the kindest man in three counties, and will fight anyone who challenges that title, that is, if he doesn't just give it to you. It is rumored that medieval poets once consulted with Dr. Elam, who is an expert, just to make sure they wrote as they were supposed to: the scribe of Beowulf regularly chats with him, despite being a thousand years away. Always impeccably dressed, his students comment of him that they learn more by studying the arrangement of his suspenders than they often do after a year of college classes.

Although by night he pursues the Questing Beast and teaches Sir Gawain how to avoid men in green suits, by day he works as a dignified professor at Regent University in Virginia.

Katie Rowland

Katie is the artist behind the acclaimed Lop Eared Studio, finding ways to make bunnies cute again. She loves working with kids, and making kids work, using art to cleverly disguise household chores, much as Tom Sawyer had. When not being tended to by her overbearing canine masters, she sometimes escapes to the confines of her studio to work on making landscapes seem like still lifes, and Picassos appear as Monets. No one knows what that means, but it is a testament to her ability as an artist.
