The Salle Saint Louis is committed to
recovering an old art for a new generation.
The Salle Saint Louis is Missouri's foremost western martial arts school, training students in the historical art of self-defense. Started in St. Louis, it has moved with its director to Lexington, Missouri, to become part of the Riverwell Institute.
Western Martial Arts (WMA) describes the martial system taught to young knights in the Middle Ages. After several centuries it gave rise to fencing, and then to Olympic fencing, and was since forgotten. The SSL is committed to the international effort to recover this art and use it to teach self-awareness, discipline, and self-defense in situations of real danger.
